🇫🇮 Finland Ageing, Long-Term Care & Community Support Knowledge Hub

Finland is internationally recognised for its integrated approach to long-term care, healthy ageing, municipal services, preventive care, digital innovation and supporting older people to remain independent for as long as possible. Its care system combines universal public services, strong local government leadership, integrated health and social care, home-based support, rehabilitation and evidence-informed policy to improve wellbeing throughout later life. The first collection within this Knowledge Hub explores Finland Ageing, Long-Term Care & Community Support, with additional specialist collections being introduced as the library expands.

Although Finland has distinctive legislation, funding arrangements and models of service delivery, many of the challenges it addresses are shared internationally. These include responding to population ageing, promoting healthy longevity, enabling ageing in place, integrating health and social care, strengthening home care services, supporting family caregivers, developing age-friendly housing, embracing digital innovation and maintaining a sustainable workforce. Finland therefore offers valuable learning for providers, commissioners, municipalities, government agencies, researchers, policymakers and system leaders across different countries.

This Knowledge Hub has been created to examine the Finnish approach to population ageing, municipal long-term care, home and community support, rehabilitation, reablement, residential care, integrated care, workforce development, prevention, digital health, assistive technology, quality improvement and system reform. It forms part of the interconnected international knowledge library across Impact Guru and Impact Insights Hub, supporting comparison between care systems and the practical application of international learning.

As the collection develops, articles will explore ageing in place, home care, reablement, dementia care, rehabilitation, family caregivers, workforce capability, housing innovation, assistive technology, artificial intelligence, telecare, digital health, integrated data, governance, public health, prevention and future sustainability. The aim is to build a practical, evidence-informed resource that explains how national policy, municipal leadership, service delivery and innovation interact to improve outcomes for older people, families and communities.
