A performance improvement plan (PIP) is only useful if it changes practice where it matters: in day-to-day delivery, decision-making and recorded evidence. Too often, PIPs sit in HR files while practice drift continues on shift. Within performance management and capability frameworks, the PIP should function as a risk-managed improvement tool, not a paperwork exercise.
